Our very own Deputy Chair has been successful in the latest round of Health Research Council funding. Associate Professor Ailsa McGregor (University of Otago) has received $150,000 from the HRC for her world-first research. Her team will ‘cage’ lithium with organic ligands so that it works more quickly and has fewer side effects when used to treat bipolar disorder.

Our CEO, Rich Easton, says, “It’s so exciting to see Ailsa get this funding for her wonderful work. Congratulations to her and her team.”

Dr Narun Pat, who was featured in our autumn Headlines, has also received HRC funding of $150,000 for his work using AI to tackle ethnicity bias in neuroimaging. And Professor Nick Draper, University of Canterbury, has received $150,000 for his team’s work in assessing health effects from collisions in junior rugby. Congratulations to all these amazing researchers.
