I’m so grateful I got to attend the Brain Bee “A Day in the Life of a Neuroscientist”. Seeing the labs was eye opening. It was fascinating to see the different ways they prepare and store the brains for the Brain Bank and hear about the importance of the brain bank on an international scale. Although I had done lots of reading about neuroscience, it wasn’t until I met so many of the amazing researchers and saw what they do that I truly understood how incredible the field is.
Everyone was really passionate about what they were researching. They shared the goals of their projects and the trials and tribulations they have gone through to overcome the many problems that occur in the name of science. The day helped me understand how these hardworking neuroscientists are making an important difference in the lives of people throughout New Zealand. It has opened my eyes to what a career in research can achieve.
