Associate Professor Bronwyn Kivell will be discussing her interest into developing treatments for better and safer pain medications. Chronic pain is poorly treated and current opioid medication such as morphine contributes to drug abuse. Associate Professor Kivell’s research looks at ways to make opioid medications safer and more effective at treating chronic pain.
About the speaker
Associate Professor Bronwyn Kivell has expertise in physiology and neurobiology at Victoria University Wellington’s School of Biological Sciences. Associate Professor Bronwyn’s research interest includes anti-addiction pharmacotherapies, drug abuse, non-addictive pain medications, the immunomodulatory effects of kappa opioids and evaluating novel remyelination drugs the treatment of multiple sclerosis.
